The force has two rank structures one which is gazette officers (GO’s) and the non-gazette officers (NGO’s). The SSB was launched in 2001 where it was referred to as the special service Bureau. The forces have different duties, but the sole purpose is to maintain law and order. India has a great number of armed forces that all work under the central government.
